Introduction of Me

Hello everyone! I'm India Beach. I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Art Education K-12. I plan on using my major to become an art teacher at a public school. I have a deep passion for art and all things that accompany it. Through this course, I am hoping to learn more about art history that I never knew and apply some new concepts to my our art. An artwork I consider exceptionally beautiful is The Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel.

The Birth of Venus, Alexandre Cabanel, 1875, Oil on Canvas

This artwork is beautiful to me because of its color palette, composition, and emotion. The color palette uses lots of golden orange tones with deep blues which make for an awesome complementary color scheme. The composition is beautiful because it divides the space into thirds nicely while still having diagonal leading lines. Lastly, the emotion in this painting is beautiful. I enjoy the tiredness of Venus while being surrounded by nuisances (kind of reminds me of myself sometimes at work). Venus looks like she just woke up and is rolling around in the covers trying to block the sun from her eyes (except her bed is the ocean... and I wish that were me). Overall, this painting is my pick of the week for its technical performance and also for my subjective interpretation of the emotion it carries.

  1. Hello India,

Great to learn a bit about you and your passion for art. Art teachers, especially in public schools are incredibly important in young children's lives and we sure need more of them like you that share a passion for art!

I too find the artwork that you chose to be beautiful. The color palette is one of my favorite aspects of the piece as well, it creates a softness and a natural tone. I really enjoy your explanation of the emotions in this piece, I hadn't previously noticed that the ocean is taking place as her bed and it gives more emotion to the piece. Looking forward to learning from each other this semester!

  2. Hello India!

I had you for a few classes last semester and I am excited and happy to see you continue to expand your love and knowledge for art! My art teachers have made big impacts on me as a child, and I think it is wonderful that you want to become an art teacher!
I also love and find beautiful the artwork you chose. I am especially drawn to art pieces about mythology and the naked form. The way Cabanel is able to create a soft look to the skin and sky and other areas of the painting really is quite breathtaking in my opinion, and I think that in technicalities this is also a well executed painting as well.
